ROCK OUTLET

Definition
Rock placed at
the outfall of channels or culverts.
Purpose
To reduce the
velocity of flow in the receiving channel to non-erosive rates.
Conditions Where
Practice Applies
This practice applies where
discharge velocities and energies at the outlets of culverts are
sufficient to erode the next downstream reach. This applies to
outlets of all types such as sediment basins, stormwater management
ponds, and road culverts.
